a new phase

Today is a different Monday in our little abode.  It is a day of routine-breaking, of breaking out of comfort zones, of new beginnings.  It marks exciting changes for both of us.

Today Will started his second year of medical school and I started in a new job.  Until today, we had our summer routine down pat.  Two cities, one car – no big deal.  Before summer started we had perfected our school year routines.  We became comfortable in our patterns and with each others’ schedules.  While Will’s schooling won’t change drastically until the spring semester and my work is actually more convenient for our mornings, there is still that element of change that catches us off guard and twists our routine.
After spending 5 years around campus I know where all of the buildings are, which is comforting, but I can’t for the life of me find a bathroom in this new-to-me building, which is not so comforting to my bladder.  It is crazy how easy we adopt routines and even crazier how quickly those routines can change.  It is hard to move out of our comfort zones and create a new normal.  But this is a new normal I am – and we are –  excited to discover.  We don’t know what changes will come this academic year, but we are ready.  Bring ’em on.
