august goals

August is such an abrupt jolt after leisurely the summer pace of June and July. All of the sudden, school is starting, vacations are over, and, in the academic world, work gets busier and more urgent.

The beginning of July and 4th of July celebrations seem like a long time ago. July was full of activities and experiences that made the days seem short but the weeks seem long. With the start of a new rotation for Will and pre-academic year prep for my work schedule, it seems like we have gone from a comfortable, easygoing summer pace to a hectic, full schedule with the blink of an eye, or in this case the flip of a calendar. I’m still getting used to it, as it always takes some time when routines change, and I’m hoping with intentionality and these goals to keep me on track, it will feel productive, rather than exhausting.

Before we get to new August goals, let’s check in on the goals from July.

July Goals
– Write down 3 things I’m grateful for each day – I got much better at this as the month went on. It was a good exercise, but I struggle to remember to do it because I don’t keep a journal or planner next to my bed.
– Drink at least 90 ounces of water a day – I’m crossing this off because I completed this almost every day!
– Go on at least three walks or bike rides a week with Will – We took a walk or two a week and biked to work/school almost every weekday in July!
– Celebrate the 4th of July! – Yes, with Will’s family in Georgia!
– Declutter and organize our bedroom and living area – I tidied, which made a big difference, but I certainly wouldn’t say I decluttered
– Post about Napa and Denver trips – posted about Napa here and here, and have Denver ready to go, just have to narrow down the photos :)
– Prepare well for and enjoy our Chicago trip
– No Instagram after 10:00 p.m.

August Goals
– Go on a date with Will (his clinical schedule sometimes makes time together limited, so this will have to be more intentional than usual)
– Drink at least 90 ounces of water a day
– Exercise 4x per week, despite heat and rain
– No Instagram after 10:00 p.m.
– Post about trip to Denver
– Make plan for DIY bedskirt
– Declutter our bedroom
– Start working on Triangle guides
– Cook seasonal dinners at least 4x per week
– Narrow down Will’s residency application locations together
