This refreshing grapefruit spritzer is the perfect addition to your Mother’s Day brunch or graduation celebration this weekend. I love how fresh and bubbly it is. It is great at any time of day, and can be kept as a mocktail, or spritzed up with some champagne for a cocktail.
I don’t know how I hadn’t tried this drink before, but it has been in heavy rotation since the revelation. With only a few ingredients, it is so so easy and so delicious! Grapefruit juice on it’s own can be too pungent and tart, but the sparkling water (or champagne) cuts through that sour pucker and makes the drink smooth and tasty. I am a sucker for anything with bubbles, and the combination of bubbly and tart citrus is perfect for this warmer season. Add a little spritz of lime and you’ve got it a vacation in a glass in just a few seconds.
I love all the freshness of grapefruit sparkling water (pamplemousse, anyone?), so I’m not sure why I never thought about mixing grapefruit juice with sparkling water. I can’t stop making it and I know grapefruit spritzers will stick around long after the celebrations have come and gone.
How are you celebrating mom? A grapefruit spritzer would help ;)
Grapefruit Spritzer
4 ounces 100% grapefruit juice
4 ounces sparkling water (lime and grapefruit are good here), champagne, or prosecco
fresh lime juice, to taste
simple syrup, optional to taste
In a glass, stir together the grapefruit juice and sparkling water. Add the simple syrup until it is sweet enough for your taste (I like mine less sweet so I leave this out, then add a squeeze of lime. Enjoy!
Simple Syrup
1 part water
1 part sugar
In a small saucepan over medium heat, stir together the water and sugar. Heat until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture is just boiling. Remove it from the heat and allow the syrup to cool.
